CURRENT PHD STUDENTS

Dongwei (David) Shi (on the market in the 2022-2023 AY)

Dongwei (David) Shi is a fourth-year PhD student in the Martin School of Public Policy and Administration. His main research interest is financial literacy and education, and his current focus is the effects and variations of financial education requirements in the K-12 setting. David is originally born in China and moved to New Zealand during junior high and obtained NZ Citizenship. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Business from Auckland University of Technology, and a Master of Economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. David enjoys tennis and car racing in his free time.

Samuel Owens

Samuel Owens is a PhD candidate in the Martin School of Public Policy and Administration at the University of Kentucky. He studies environmental policy and his current research examines areas such as federal disaster policy and municipal storm water systems. He holds a bachelor’s degree in public affairs from Indian University and a Master of Public Policy from the University of Kentucky. Sam is originally from West Lafayette, Indiana and in his free time enjoys backpacking.


Regina Lewis

Regina M. Lewis is pursuing her Ph.D. at the Martin School of Public Policy and Administration at the University of Kentucky. She currently serves as a Project Manager, through UK’s College of Agriculture, and conducts research evaluating the impact of policy, physical activity and nutrition programing on outcomes in childcare settings. Regina is interested in expounding on research that examines systemic patterns of inequity that reverberate in the modern Black experience and contribute to disparate outcomes such as the racial wealth gap.
